The 2023 Golden Globe Awards, televised live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, officially kicked off awards season on Tuesday night. The celebration was placed on hold in 2022 when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which picks the nominations and winners for the night, was accused of both financial and ethical errors. (Among other things, the HFPA has been accused of self-dealing and has been chastised for the continued lack of diversity on its nomination lists.)
Jerrod Carmichael, who won an Emmy for his HBO special Rothaniel and featured in the comedy The Carmichael Show, presented this year’s event. Austin Butler, who won Best Actor – Drama for his depiction of Elvis Presley in Baz Lurhmann’s biopic, and Cate Blanchett, who won her fourth Golden Globe for her role in Tár, were among the significant winners in the acting categories. Zendaya won her first Golden Globe for her role as juvenile addict Rue in Euphoria, but fans were cruelly denied a red-carpet appearance by the fashion icon, who did not attend the ceremony.
Aside from the statuettes, all eyes were on fashion as Hollywood presented the first major red carpet of 2023. See all of the top looks from the night, from Michelle Yeoh in Armani Privé to newbie Jenna Ortega in Gucci, right here.
