While reading the ingredient lists of your favorite skincare products, keep in mind that how they’re applied to your face is just as important as what they’re comprised of. Are you still massaging your eye cream or stippling moisturizer all over your face? It may be causing more harm than benefit.
To get the most out of your skincare routine, here’s how to apply, pat, glide, and massage your moisturizer, toner, and sunscreen into your face.
The right way to apply your skincare!
1. Cleanser
While using a cleanser may appear to be as simple as soap and water, there is a suitable way to wash your face that is specific to your face and skin type. If you’re using a washing gel or foam, it’s preferable to apply it on damp skin so it can thoroughly emulsify. Because water might dilute a cleansing lotion, oil, or milk, it’s best to use it on dry skin.
It is instructed to apply their cleanser on damp skin and massage it in a circular motion for one to two minutes. Allow it to soak in the dirt for a few minutes before washing it off. The procedure aids in the removal of debris while also gently stimulating the skin without abrasion.
2. Toner
Check the instructions on the back of the bottle for this skincare step—some can be spritzed on, applied with a cotton pad, or simply massaged into the skin. After cleansing, toner should always be used. It hydrates and prepares your skin for serums and moisturizers.
PIt aids in the removal of excess oil and grime that may have remained on your skin despite cleansing. To get the greatest results, wet a cotton pad with the toner. It’s better to sweep the cotton pad across the face and neck in an upward motion.
3. Moisturizer
The greatest thing you can do is apply moisturizer by massaging it in. When applying your moisturizer, always use extreme caution. According to the former, people tend to massage it too hard and strain their skin. Take a pea-sized amount of the substance and put it in your mouth. Rub it between your fingers to warm it up.
You can also apply a few dots immediately to your face and neck. Apply it to your face and neck in an upward and outward motion. It’s advisable to do it with your fingers rather than your palms because it’s a gentler method.
4. Eye cream
Use the tips of two fingers to apply eye cream underneath your eyes and across your brow bones. Dabbing and patting motions are far superior to sweeping or rubbing, and they also minimize puffiness.
5. Essence and Serums
If you’re adding essences or serums to your routine, the ideal way to apply them is to put a few drops in your hand and rub them into your skin. Don’t do it in broad strokes. Tapping is a kinder method of doing things.
If it’s an oil serum, use it as an excuse to give yourself a facial massage. Make sure you’re moving upwards and outwards. If you want to go all out, give yourself a gua sha or a face roller massage to let the product sink in even deeper.
6. Sunscreen Skincare
Even now, wearing sunscreen is critical. Think of sunscreen as a barrier between your skin and the elements. So start with small amounts of the cream and progressively apply it to your skin.
You’ll need a tablespoon of sunscreen on your face, so apply it thickly. It works best if you dab it on your face and pat it in, but experts advise avoiding kneading it in like a moisturizer or oil.
