Summer’s been a long time coming, especially with the year-plus we’ve all had. We’re dreaming of a vacation to literally anywhere with sunshine and longer light-filled days. We want to ditch our work uniforms for lighter layers and flip-flops, and maybe even enjoy a cocktail with an umbrella and fruit slice while slathering ourselves in sunscreen. Here are our best swimsuit cover ups.

Beach season is upon us once again and preparation is key before hitting the shore. You’ll need cool sunglasses, a cute swimsuit, a pair of sandals, plenty of sunscreens, and a chic cover-up that you can quickly slip on whether you’re browsing the boardwalk or just want a little extra coverage from the sun.

If you’re shopping for something that can go straight to lunch after a dip, look for conventional clothing in airy fabrics that can pull double-duty, like maxi dresses or shorter T-shirt swing dresses. If you prefer pants, there’s a pair of trousers here with UPF sun protection built-in, as well as a cute romper for a one-and-done look. All are easy to slip on over a suit and can be dressed up or down with a few carefully chosen accessories.

Of course, half the joy of shopping for swimwear is the fact that it’s an instant vacation. For cover-up pieces that are just plain fun, look into lace kimonos, hippie-chic crocheted tunics, or goddess caftans.
