Well, every black girl out there can relate to the issues that come with having natural hair it does not matter, 4c, 3c, or just thick curls it still is the same for everyone with a love for kinky hair. Growing it, styling it, and maintaining it, everything part of it deserves dedication and work. Most people think growing natural hair is an easy task but sincerely it is not. At least every girls with kinky has experienced a bad hair wash day, slipped on conditioner or just got late to an important event just thinking of how to style it. Anytime you see someone with strong health long beautiful kinky hair, that person has literally been through a lot. For someone who has never straightened their hair, I can tell you that it is an achievement. People don’t seem to realize that hair is as important as your clothes, your makeup, or your shoes. Your hair completes your look and it should be treated well. People keep asking me what the key is to grow strong kinky hair so I’ll leave a few tips below.
The first thing to do if you want to grow healthy natural hair is to love it. I know you are confused. Yes! Love it! Being an African from a very traditional home, I have a think strong hair I usually have to use 2 to 3 combs because it would end up breaking. People teased me about it a lot in boarding school and it was not just me other girls faced similar criticism. Most started to chop it off or perm it because they lost the love they had for their hair, they did not see how special it was anymore and they did not want to appreciate it. The moment you lose the love you have your hair, you start to treat it badly. So I encourage black girls to love theirs, show it off to the world. Let people know that it does not matter what type of hair you have all that matters is that you rocking it the most elegant way you want and you are beautiful.
Secondly, my nana’s famous quote, “Treat your hair like another person” ie( your child). How do you treat your friends, family, and even work? Exactly so why don’t you use that same energy to take care of your hair? For me, your hair is just another individual that needs care and attention. Just so you know my hair has the name #Monsé, funny right? By doing this you build a bond with your hair. Your sense of dedication is heightened. So like an individual, you feed it with good organic products, you wash it when it is wash day, you spend on it as you should and it will become very easy for it to grow stronger and healthier by the day. Another thing, don’t just try any product on the market, know what your hair needs. It’s appropriate to read the ingredients on products before trying them out. I usually recommend mild organic products, they are way easier to use and also put your hair in a protective hairstyle to prevent it from becoming hard and messy. That’s a picture of my favorite traditional protective hairstyle below. Follow me on Instagram for more hair tips @ewuraaaaaa_
