As a model, there are times you have to come up with a photoshoot on your own, to buff up your portfolio. It can be hard to figure out the right outfit to go with.
Here’s a checklist for a great photoshoot outfit:
1. DECIDE THE FASHION STYLE
There are so many fashion styles you can go with. There’s vintage fashion, grunge fashion, artsy fashion, bohemian fashion and so many more.
You should go with a style that suits your physique, skin tone, and probably something you haven’t done before, especially if you are trying to buff up your portfolio
2. PICK A LOCATION
Your fashion style of choice will help you pick a location. You could just go ahead with a studio backdrop, but for more flavor, it would be great to pick a location that is in tune with your fashion style of choice. If you are going to go with a Bohemian style, then a nice light forest or greener would suit. While a dark and artsy environment would go great with a grunge aesthetic
3. PICK A COLOR PALETTE
This palette should reflect your outfit and location. Your makeup, accessories, etc. The colors should complete your skin tone and each other, to give you a great shot.
4. PICK A CONCEPT
Getting a great fashion style and location is good. But when you decide to convey a story or deeper meaning, it really makes your shot unique.
You could convey this message with props and your pose. You could choose an exotic fashion style, but talk about pollution and global warming. People hardly get hired for shoots like this, but they add a whole lot to your portfolio and could even go viral.
5. GET A PHOTOGRAPHER ON BOARD
You need to tell him about your concept, style, and the location you have in mind. He could help you find a better location and even source props.
But most importantly, he needs to know what you have in mind in order to deliver the best shot. So he can get the lighting right, use the right angles, and even help you with the right pose and facial expression.
6. SET A DATE
A goal isn’t set until it has a timeline. This should give you time to get all your props, talk to your photographer and prepare yourself mentally.
This simple checklist can help you pick out a great outfit and set up an amazing photoshoot.
