The 2023 fashion trends have begun to appear in stores four months after the new runway shows gave us a preview of what to expect in the coming year. What should we purchase?
Cargo pants, denim, and wearable silhouettes are this year’s trend favourites, which are being supported on spring 2023 runways. Not that the first half of the year will be monotonous in terms of style. Dramatic hem lengths and silver metallics are still in style, albeit in more wearable forms than ever before, making it simpler to keep your NYE resolution to have a capsule wardrobe. Though I don’t anticipate it to be entirely about Pantone’s colour of the year Viva Magenta, 2023 may finally see the end of famous hot pink and the introduction of fresh, fascinating hues.
These are six upcoming fashion trends for 2023 that you should add to your year-round buying list.
2023 Fashion Trends: Cargo Pants
2023 will see a rise in a utilitarian fashion, which makes room for the cargo pant’s comeback. They, however, are not the formless, low-rise pants of the year 2000 era. This style is reflected in fitted silhouettes, unique pocket placements, upscale materials like silk and organza, and hues other than khaki and olive for the spring.
2023 Fashion Trends: Sheer Clothing
Since the lockdown ended, the guiding principle has been “Bare it all.” Naked dressing transitions from the red carpet, where stars like Cher and Rihanna have been spotted wearing it for years, to street style in 2023. The formerly risqué style is coming for your weekend wardrobe as well as workwear, from a cellophane-like dress draped over a brilliantly coloured maxi skirt at Tory Burch to a frothy frock displaying undergarments at Victoria Beckham.
2023 Fashion Trends: Denim Reimagined
We haven’t been this enthused about denim trends in a while, from double-waisted jeans to carpenter jeans. Even the most opulent runway designers appear to concur, showcasing strapless dresses, shirting, and even underwear and footwear (denim thigh-high boots anyone?). Choose classic styles and cuts that may be worn again and again once the novelty of them has worn off, regardless of the category you choose.
2023 Fashion Trends: Shine For The Daytime
The runways in 2023 have so much shine that it looks like the Roaring ’20s are returning. This year, designers are arguing for “daytime shine” — wearable separates that can liven up even the most basic necessities like tank tops (see above) and blue jeans. Sequins may feel like a thing of the past once the clock hits midnight on January 31. Although this trend is available in every metallic colour (gold, bronze, rose gold, etc.), we prefer the liquid silver look because it can be used as a neutral.
2023 Fashion Trend: Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts are here to take over the year in response to the incredibly impractical micro skirts of 2022. Expect plenty of low-rise, pocket-adorned silhouettes and floor-grazing jean skirts in keeping with the aforementioned cargo and denim trends, as well as styles in a variety of prints and unusual materials like velvet. We salute you, lengthy hemlines.
2023 Fashion Trend: Cobalt Blue
Cobalt blue has exploded across the collections with the freshness of a sea mist on an early day, making it the strongest colour narrative to emerge from the 2023 runways thus far. It’s the deep blue that will enthral even the most colour-averse people since it’s just vivid enough to make people look twice while remaining subdued enough to be worn every day. Plus points: It complements Pantone’s Viva Magenta nicely.
