A subculture known as “Dark Academia” was born out of the romanticization of knowledge, classical studies, and literature. These are frequently seen in the Ivy League or Oxbridge university halls, and they can be from the mid-19th century to the present. The majority of the movies you’ll encounter are from the 1920s through the 1950s, and they usually have murder, mystery, or self-actualization as their central themes. It leans toward the darker side of these scholarly references, as the title suggests; picture rainy days spent in dim libraries and deserted museums.

DARK ACADEMIA OUTFIT AESTHETIC: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT

Dark Academia is related to Gothcore in many aspects; they share somber aesthetics that are based on, for lack of a better word, dark components. Dark Academia fashion is based on art, in contrast to gothcore, which is influenced by metal and rock music culture and features sensual cutouts, a lot of PVC, and punk accessories like chokers, chains, and crosses.

Dark Academia’s aesthetic can be best described as prep school attire with a gothic edge. It is classical and European, romantic and tragic, and is influenced by writers like Shakespeare, the Bronte sisters, and Jane Austen as well as topics like Greek mythology and poetry with existential themes.

Staple Pieces for creating a Dark Academia-inspired outfit

2. Upscale Fabrics

This style is quite sophisticated. Therefore, the fabric or substance you select must be elegant and opulent. Consider using materials like wool, Egyptian cotton, or cashmere. Selectively including linen is also possible.
